Bacon, it has been said, is the candy of meats. Its crisp, salty, smoky goodness isn’t just a good accompaniment to scrambled eggs or for layering in a sandwich. You can enjoy bacon in a happy hour cocktail. You know why? Because you do what you WANT. And I’m willing to bet that you will want this Salted Caramel Candied Bacon shot in your face.

Salted Caramel Candied Bacon Shot

First, you’ll want to prepare your bacon. Get some thick cut, applewood smoked bacon. Lay the slices on a parchment paper lined baking sheet and sprinkle with brown sugar. Broil for about 15 minutes, but it will depend on your oven so keep an eye on it. There’s nothing sadder than burnt bacon. Except me, when I’ve discovered that I burnt the bacon. Set the bacon aside to cool.

You’ll need:

  • Caramel sauce
  • Kosher salt
  • 1 ½ oz. bourbon

Pour a small amount of caramel sauce in a dish and dip the rim of your shot glass in it. Now do the same, dipping your shot glass into a dish of kosher salt. Drizzle some of the sauce on the inside of the glass. Add bourbon and a slice of candied bacon. Let it sit for about 20 minutes so the bacon flavor infuses the bourbon. This might seem like a lot of prep for a shot, so you probably want to make a bunch at one time. The nice thing is, they look great, so this would be a great for a party or cocktail hour. Plus: Bacon! Bourbon! Caramel! You’re welcome. Cheers.
