Get to Know the Ladies Behind Smartass & Sass

By Barbara Doyle

Abby and Kim are those kind of friends. You know the ones—they share their own made up words, have entire conversations in song, and love to have a laugh over an inappropriate joke. They’ve been business partners since elementary school, when they launched their first entrepreneurial venture wrapping thread around other girls’ hair. And when the time came to launch their own business as adults they married those ideas of treating yourself and living your life with a certain kind of humor and their monthly subscription service “Smartass & Sass” was born.

Subscribers to “Smartass & Sass” get a box every month filled with products that are as functional as they are funny. Each month (and for some one-off boxes) they come up with a theme and then search for fun products that match it. Themes have included the “Saucy Chef” box, the “I Hate Pants” box, the “BAMF Bride” box and, a personal favorite, “The Inappropriate AF box”, which they call “the feistiest of them all.” Abby and Kim dig deep to find a wide variety of unique products guaranteed to bring a smile or an all out giggle. They also feel it’s important to buy from small business people like themselves. “We pride ourselves with paying our vendors a fair price for their goods. We only use artists and small businesses so (we) feel strongly that we need to support each other instead of buying from large chains.” And what else makes them different from other boxes? “We also like to think we deliver more laughs than other subscription services!”

It’s a formula that customers are responding to. Customer reviews have been excellent, and they have grown faster than they ever thought they would. Recent feedback includes: “It’s exciting that each month is a complete surprise so you never know what you’re going to pull out you just know it’s going to be funny…”, “Hands down, the best subscription ever. It’s like they’ve studied me and created a monthly box that’s perfectly-suited”, and “This box is EVERYTHING!” So if you want a monthly dose of treats for yourself or one of those kind of friends, consider a subscription to the sassiest service around.

Box Review

Smartass & Sass sent us their “Get Your Shit Together” box, which included the following hilarious handpicked products:

The “I Hope Your Day is as Nice as Your Butt” greeting card by 622Press. I can see myself giving this beautiful letterpress card to my husband because yes, he still does it for me.

The “Dat Booty Lip Balm” by Humphrey’s Handmade. This lips balm glides on easily and doesn’t feel greasy. It has a light berry scent and flavor that doesn’t overwhelm.

The “Hot Shit” potholder by Erin Elyse Designs. I consider myself humorously warned. This one is going in my kitchen to remind me to save my poor hands.

The “Kick Ass Notebook” and bonus item stickers by Smartass & Sass. Who doesn’t need a new notebook with an awesome reminder on it? And I’m not sure I’ll ever use the “I Fart Glitter” sticker, but the “Shit Happens” sticker is definitely one for me.

The “Poop Washi Tape” by Julie Ann Art. I look forward to using this and having people squint at it and say, “Is that what I think it is?”

The “Take a Poop Matches” by Inkspot Workshop. I live with three boys. These are useful.

And the “Do Epic Shit” Mug by Paper Berry Press. Perfect for my morning coffee, but probably going to reside on my desk as a pencil holder, to remind me of the mission of the day.

As you can see, the box contained an excellent variety of product types, and the theme was totally on point. This box is a perfect monthly pick me up, guaranteed to bring a smile, and would make an awesome gift for your best friend.
