Empathy is the capacity to recognize emotions that are being experienced by another sentient or fictional being. One may need to have a certain amount of empathy before being able to experience accurate sympathy or compassion.
The world could do with more empathy, but in order to achieve it, we need more understanding. This is a wonderfully creative explanation of autism from the perspective of 13 year old Rosie, who is diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome.
