With all of the hustle and bustle of everyday life, self-care takes the furthest backseat to most other things. If you’re anything like me, you even feel guilty when you aren’t doing something that could be generally considered to be “work”. The days are easily filled with tasks and it’s so easy to forget how important it is to take a moment and work on taking care of yourself. In times of hardship, it may even more difficult to fit anything in, but that’s actually where founder Kelly Collins began.

Box flat lay

In the midst of her first IVF treatment, she had a conversation with a friend that brought to light how important self-care was. “I had honestly never heard the term, and after researching on my own I realized that I had never actually learned to care for myself or prioritize my emotional needs. I had grown up with an understanding that putting yourself first is selfish, but I quickly realized that by not doing this, I was not fully loving and appreciating myself and my strengths, and I was pouring all of my energy into others without allowing myself to refuel,” shares Kelly. “Since this realization, I have learned to respect my emotions, to notice and cultivate my strengths, and to recognize my limits and find ways to recharge.”

I think that’s something that we can all relate to – never really figuring out when or how to prioritize what we can do to help ourselves. From there, Trösta Box was born of love and encouragement. Kelly wanted to offer something to people everywhere to not only remind them how important comfort and wellness are for your body, but for your mind and heart as well: “Trösta box is a way for women to reflect on their strengths, receive inspiration, grow their creativity, and rest each month. It is also an opportunity for friends and family to send a comforting care package to friends that are experiencing challenges. Trösta is Swedish for comfort or care, and I chose this word as a tribute to my grandpa – who is Swedish – and how he always provides care and comfort to others despite his circumstances.”

Each month has a different theme and is chock-full of all sorts of goodies. Each box has 4-6 full-sized items that range from baked goods to bath products to activities to do while you take a break. They strive to offer goods that are from US-based small businesses, or fair trade practices, and are natural or organic. Each product is meant to evoke something positive, to be inspiring or encourage wellness and relaxation, or just be plain yummy. Whatever it may be is meant for you to enjoy.

The dream for Trösta box is slowly unfolding just the way that Kelly was hoping it would. “My dream is to inspire a community of women to love who they are and prioritize self-care so they can continue being the awesome co-worker, wife, mom, friend, sister, daughter, care-giver they are each day. Our motto is ‘We exist to help people love and care for themselves better, every day’.”

Her dream shares the same heart as Sweatpants and Coffee: Comfort for All.

The Review of the July Box:

Each box is $45 per month with the month-to-month plan. But every box is filled with full-sized items. No trial-sizes over here – just full bags of cookies.

1. ADVENTURE Canteen from Tote and Able ($19)

Canvas Canteen
The thing I loved most about this canteen is that it is made of a high quality canvas. You can tell just by holding it that it can take some serious wear and tear.

2.  Goodie Girl Naturally Gluten-Free Oatmeal Raisin Cookies ($4.99)

Cookies
I’m not gonna lie, I was a little skeptical. Gluten-free stuff has come a long way but I don’t mess around with cookies. To my delight, these cookies were delicious. Crunchy and flavorful, with lots of cinnamon.

3.  Ginger and Bee Nature’s Walk Soap ($4)

Soap
This soap was all full of cedarwood and sage scents, like walking through a wet forest in the best way. And it leaves your hands feeling clean without overdrying.

4.  The Anywhere Connections Cards ($12.95)

Anywhere Connections
I actually like to keep these in my bag with a notebook, so whenever I have a few minutes I can draw a card and either do what it says or let it inspire me to do something different.

5.  Feather Tattoo by AQuartzyLife ( set of 5 for $10.50)

Feather Tatoo
I haven’t used this one yet because I’m saving it for the right time. It’s beautifully colored and full of character. When the right event comes, I’ll know it.

6.  Printed Greeting Card by AQuartzyLife ($3.50)

Go Wild
These cards are large and vibrant. The colors just jump right off the front. And they’re blank inside so you can draw or write whatever you wish.

7.  Mini Portable Flower Press from Impressed by Nature ($8)

Flower Press
It is literally a tiny flower press. I’m really looking forward to taking this on our camping trip in a few weeks. There are so many wildflowers that I long to keep, and now I have a way to do that.

8.  Self-Care Calendar (Free)

Calendar
This month’s description card has a small calendar that gives you little ideas for something to do every day of the week. Like “Go out for a drive” or “phone a friend” or “use your flower press!” It has fast and slow ideas, ways to use and enjoy this month’s goodies, and even one day a week to pull out your Anywhere Connections Cards and use them.
