For this month’s picks, we asked the Sweatpants & Coffee staff to tell us their favorite holiday movies.

First up is our resident beauty expert, Charlotte Wear Fraser Smith, with A Nightmare Before Christmas, the Tim Burton stop-motion animated classic. Jack Skellington is bored with Halloween and decides to take over Christmas.

Heather Dyer, The Dessert Nerd, suggests Elf, a Christmas comedy starring Will Ferrell as Buddy the Elf, a human raised by elves who sets off on a quest to find his birth father, and A Christmas Story, the story of young Ralphie, a boy growing up in the 40s who dreams of receiving a Red Rider BB gun. It’s all fun and games until someone shoots their eye out!

Recapper Leslie Gayle recommends Die Hard, which may not be what one would consider a traditional Christmas movie, what with all the explosions and terrorists, but, still, it fills us with good cheer.

Director of Operations Shandle Blaha chooses The Holiday as her rom-com fave. Two women on opposite sides of the world swap houses and find that their lives are changed.

Catastrophe Kitchen’s Salongo Wendland loves Love Actually for holiday viewing. Romance is in the air all over London, and love, actually, is all around.

Editor in Chief Nanea Hoffman agrees with all these recommendations, but would add a personal favorite of hers: About a Boy. This story of a lonely misfit kid who strikes up an unlikely friendship with an immature playboy who helps him cope with his mother’s depression will tug at the heartstrings and make you laugh.

Whichever of these holiday movies you choose, we suggest you make a cozy night of it with some fondue, courtesy of Catastrophe Kitchen.

And to wash it down, how about some Sparkling Hard Apple Cider Sangria from Iowa Girl Eats?
