When you were a kid, you thought being an adult would mean freedom, independence, and the ability to set your own damn bedtime. And of course, it does mean that. But also you have to think about stuff like eating enough fiber and paying taxes, so it’s not as fun as you thought it would be. You had no idea that you’d get so excited about ordinary, mundane activities.
1. Having drinks with your friends at 5 p.m. so that you can be home by 8 p.m. to watch Netflix in your pajamas.
The feeling of relief when you change out of those leg-prisons they call pants and into your comfy clothes is unparalleled. And you can watch as many episodes as you want. So there.
2. Getting invited to an event but then finding out it’s cancelled.
This is a win on so many levels. You made plans, so you are being social. You were invited somewhere, so yay, people like you! And best of all, now you get to do whatever you want.
3. Taking a bath.
Remember how much you HATED taking a bath when you were a kid? Now you look forward to a relaxing bathtub sesh like you used to look forward to morning cartoons.
4. Taking pictures of food.
When you were a kid you got excited about food. But if someone had told you that someday you’d be super stoked to photograph your dinner so that you could show it to strangers, you’d be like, “Wait. What?”
Sleep used to be the tool of the oppressor, man. It was the patriarchy (or matriarchy) trying to keep you DOWN. You hated naps. You hated bedtime. Sleep was boring. Now? You catch yourself self fantasizing about curling up with a nice blankie and having a snooze-fest. It’s now one of your favorite activities in life.
