Rx:  “The Therapist”

Prescribed by: B.A. Paris

Prescribed for: Fans of A.J. Finn’s, “The Woman in the Window” and Ira Levin’s “The Stepford Wives.”

Side Effects:   A compulsion to keep an eye on your neighbors while searching public records to make sure nothing bad ever happened in your house before you moved in.

Directions: Would you want to live in a home where someone was murdered? And why won’t anyone talk about what happened to Nina?  It seems that everyone living in London’s The Circle community has something to hide.

A minor fender-bender brought Alice and Leo together.  They cement their relationship by moving in together into an upscale, gated community in London called The Circle. Once there, however, Alice discovers that nothing is as it seems. Leo is keeping secrets, and some of the neighbors are downright prickly when she asks about the home’s previous owners. As Alice begins to doubt her own sanity, her friendship with a few of the neighbors is the only thing keeping her balanced. But are they really her friends?  Can she truly trust anyone, and does she even trust herself?

This novel is psychological suspense at its best.  The story unfolds at a rapid pace, with plenty of rabbit holes to get lost in as you try to to make all of the pieces fit together. It’s a tense read, full of dark secrets, with an overwhelming sense of betrayal.  You’ll be hard pressed not to read this whole novel in one sitting!

Special Instructions:

Alice wants so much to make friends with the other couples in her new, gated community.  She hosts a cocktail party and invites everyone on the block.  I like to think that these easy to make, yet elegant enough to impress your guests, offerings were on her menu:

Raspberry Rosé Mule from Eat, Pray, Love to Travel

From the website: “Raspberries are in season and Rosé wine is my forever soul sister. Together, these ingredients make the most beautiful music.”

Creamed Honey Whipped Cheese Strawberry Crostini from Chef and Steward

From the website: “This whole thing from top to bottom on every layer, is balanced with sweet tartiness.”
