I love having a plan. Plans make me happy. And lists. Lists and plans. One of the great things about this hot buttered rum batter recipe is that you can make up a batch of it in advance (plan!). You can put it in pretty jars and give it as gifts to people you love. You can invite a bunch of people over and serve them a delightful beverage. Or you can store it away and enjoy a warm cup of deliciousness every night yourself. It’s tasty, it’s hot, and it’s alcoholic. Not unlike myself. (KIDDING! I’m room temperature, at best.)
But seriously, this stuff is good.
- 2 ½ cups dark brown sugar
- 2 cups unsalted butter (room temperature) – you can substitute coconut oil if you like. You know the stuff that is Crisco-like in consistency? That works if you’re trying to be dairy free.
- ½ tsp. cinnamon
- ¼ tsp. nutmeg
- ¼ tsp. cloves
- 1/8 tsp. cardamom
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- ½ tsp. vanilla extract
Cream brown sugar and butter in a mixing bowl until fluffy. Add spices and vanilla extract and continue mix until well combined. Transfer mixture into airtight container for storage.
For Hot Buttered Rum, pour 6 oz. of boiling water into a mug. Drop in one heaping tablespoon of batter and stir. Add 1 ½ oz. of dark rum and mix well. Cheers!
