Lucky Me Crème De Menthe Shake recipe

Drinking green beer and eating corned beef and cabbage doesn’t make St. Patrick’s Day Irish any more than slapping pineapple (and for some reason ham?) on a pizza makes it Hawaiian – though perhaps my ancestors brought some along in their double-hulled canoes as they sailed the Pacific. Who knows. The point is, let’s acknowledge that St. Patrick’s Day is a uniquely American phenomenon that now has more to do with celebrating cultural identity for some and wearing green and buying $2 well drinks for others. What I want to talk about today is feeling lucky.

Do you ever just stop in the middle of your crazy, messy, effed up life and just give thanks? Because it’s that, or have a small nervous breakdown? You might say to yourself, “All things considered, though, I’m lucky. I’m still here, flailing away.” And then if you squint hard, you can see the microscopic moments of goodness and tiny blessings that you miss when you’re tired and discouraged.

This drink, the Lucky Me Crème De Menthe Shake, is for those moments. It’s chocolaty and minty and green (because, whatever, it’s March 17 and green is what we do on this day), and it is meant to be savored. The way life should be, if we can manage to slow down long enough.

2 oz. Godiva white chocolate liqueur
1 oz. Crème De Menthe
1 cup ice
Tiny marshmallows picked out of your Lucky Charms for garnish

In a blender, combine liqueurs and ice. Blend until frothy. Pour into a glass and sprinkle with tiny marshmallows while admiring pretty green color. Say to yourself, “I am lucky” and try to mean it. Cheers!
