Instant ramen is perhaps one of the most maligned yet ubiquitously consumed meals – certainly this was true for me during my college years, and not just because it was cheap and fast. For me, it was also comfort food. A big bowl of warm noodles and broth was often exactly what I needed to get through a tough day, or it was the perfect late night meal.

10 Minute Ramen Stir Fry Recipe

Yes, the food snobs will tell you these noodles have no nutritional value and that they aren’t real food and blah, blah, blah. If you’re one of those, just click on out of here. OK, now that the not-fun people are gone, I’m going to tell the rest of you something: instant ramen is quick, filling, affordable, tasty, and easily hacked. Not all of us can afford to buy food that is organic, everything-free, blessed by shamans and anointed with the tears of virgins. Not all of us even want to. Some of us are just trying to make ends meet and want to put a decent meal on the table that doesn’t require a dozen ingredients and/or specialized implements we have to Google. It is for you people that I present this simple, delicious recipe.

10 minute ramen stir fry | ingredients

10 Minute Ramen Stir Fry:

  • ½ cup chopped or shredded cooked chicken breast – I used leftover roast chicken
  • 1 egg, scrambled
  • 2 tbsp. chopped green onion
  • 1 packet instant ramen
  • 1 tbsp. oil

Set your ramen to boil according to package instructions. Do NOT add the flavor packet. Save that for later. When the ramen is done, drain it and set it aside. Do whatever you need to do for the other ingredients. Chop, scramble, etc. In a frying pan, heat the tablespoon of oil on medium high. Dump in the noodles, chicken, and egg. Grab your flavor packet and sprinkle the contents evenly over all the stuff in the frying pan. Stir until everything is well coated with oil and flavoring. Add the green onions and stir just a tiny bit more. Done. Put this in a fancy bowl and feel accomplished. Even better: get a foodie friend to try your authentic Asian noodle stir fry and see how they like it. They don’t need to know it’s a 10 minute meal that cost under 5 bucks. Unless you feel like rubbing it in. Enjoy!
