In a chaotic and uncertain world, it helps to remember that good things are happening around us all the time. We think it’s important to pay attention to the good stuff. Here’s a roundup of uplifting stories to cheer your heart.
Airport employee helps connect two elderly women who fell in love on a long flight and were trying to find each other
An airport employee named Donya (Twitter user @vvuxian) was approached by an older woman who came to her counter hoping to connect with a passenger on an incoming flight that had landed an hour before. Had she been on that flight? Unfortunately, Donya informed her that she wasn’t allowed to divulge that information, but was sympathetic to the dejected woman’s plight. What unfolded next, as told in a series of Tweets, is a Hallmark movie-level romance:
omg… the cutest thing just happened at work it’s like a fic. i’m gonna do a thread, spoiler it’s a love story

for those who don’t know: i work at the ticket counter for an airline.
this older lady (i’m guessing 70) comes to the counter and says she needs some help/has a question and is wondering if i could help. i tell her to go ahead— don(4) (@vvuxian) April 19, 2019
she explains that she’s supposed to meet someone coming in on a specific flight (she tells me the flight number) from spain, but the plane laded and hour ago and they didn’t show up. she wants to know if that person was on the plane

problem is, i’m not allowed to give out that kind of information and i tell her so. she just nods and says that she understands but looks really sad, so i ask her what happened

turns out she met another woman on the plane. they flew in from canada on the same plane and sat next to each other but had different connecting flights in spain. the old lady tells me she fell in love with that woman during those 11something hours and they promised to meet here

now my gay heart is moved but i’m still not allowed to give her information about passengers. i advice her to maybe have her called outy or if she has her phone number, she can use our phone and call her
— don(4) (@vvuxian) April 19, 2019
she says she has already tried calling her but she can’t reach her. she’s ready to give up and she looks really sad, and i’m just as sad as her, but she leaves. i kind of can’t stop thinking about it. but the story isn’t over here

one hour later, so just a few minutes ago, another old lady comes to the counter. she is not with me but with my coworker, and i’m in the back and eating. i hear how she says that she needs some help. she’s waiting for someone to arrive from spain.

i basically drop my sandwich and go out front to the counter. outside is another older lady, also around 70. i ask her, have you by any chance just arrived from spain? she said yes. i try not to lose it and hastily look through the papers at my computer
— don(4) (@vvuxian) April 19, 2019
you see, just before the first lady left, i told her she could leave her number with me, just in case. thank GOD she did. i call her and when she picks up i say “hi X, there’s someone here at the counter looking for you.”
— don(4) (@vvuxian) April 19, 2019
she sounds out of this world excited on the phone and i hand it over so they can talk to each other and the lady at the counter says “hurry, dear, i miss you” when i tell you i almost started SOBBING
— don(4) (@vvuxian) April 19, 2019
only 10 minutes later, the lady from before is hurrying back to the counter. luckily she hadn’t left the airport. the two of them run towards each other and hug 🥺🥺🥺 it’s like a MOVIE i swear

Good boy is finally adopted after spending 2,381 days in shelter
Higgins had come to the Humane Society of Preble County in Eaton, Ohio as a puppy. He was adopted right away, but in 2012, he ended up back in the shelter, where he stayed. He’d been left chained to house until someone brought him in to the Humane Society as a stray. The now senior dog waited patiently for someone to take him home, but no luck. Older dogs are often passed over by people looking to adopt a dog. Until 22-year-old Brendan Reed walked in. He’d just bought a house and wanted to give Higgins a home. He’d seen the German Shephard online and was touched by his story. After six and a half years, Higgins has finally found his forever home.
Two woman are the last to finish the Pittsburgh Marathon; miss the 7 hour cutoff but finish together
Jessica Robertson, 30, and Laura Mazur, 37, were the very last finishers of the Pittsburgh Marathon. It took them 7 hours, 22 minutes, and 56 seconds. They missed the 7 hour cutoff but are still being hailed as winners. The determined pair crossed the finish line hand in hand. They even had their own cheerleading squad – Pittsburgh’s Steel City Road Runners Club (SCRRC) which runs a cheering station near the final mile every year. Some runners even joined the two women as they neared the end of the marathon. Daniel Heckert, a coach for SCRRC, snapped this picture:
Robertson and Mazur say they will now be friends for life after this experience. After all, it’s not where you place, it’s how you run the race.
