In a chaotic and uncertain world, it helps to remember that good things are happening around us all the time. We think it’s important to pay attention to the good stuff. Here’s a roundup of uplifting stories to cheer your heart.

When this father discovered his daughter was bullying another student because of her clothes and makeup, he took the bullied girl on a shopping spree

Randy Smalls learned that his daughter had been bullying another child, making fun of her appearance. Having been bullied himself, he decided to teach his daughter a lesson in empathy. He went to the girl’s mother, a friend of the family, and asked if he could take her daughter shopping for new clothes and a makeover (using money he’d intended to spend on his own daughter). “I say, ‘When you laugh along, you’re co-signing the bullying,” Smalls told Yahoo News. “My daughter was upset, especially because she is into fashion,” he said. “So she came with us and helped pick out Ryan’s new clothes.”

This organization, founded by a teenager, provides companionship and complimentary makeovers to women who live in senior homes, and we can’t love it enough

From the website: “Rachel Doyle founded GlamourGals in 2000 as a junior in high school, in memory of her grandmother who had recently passed away. She was unable to regularly visit her grandmother who lived in a senior home across the country, and she realized there were women in the senior homes in her own community who also weren’t receiving regular visits from their families. Rachel combined her compassion and her love of beauty to create a unique program that fosters intergenerational connections while developing empathetic leadership skills in teens.”

Now, through GlamourGals chapters all over the country, teen volunteers provide makeovers to senior women who live in care homes and may not receive regular visits from friends or family. The human connection and contact they develop is priceless.
