Grey’s Anatomy, Season 11, Episode 24 – “Time Stops”

What we loved:

Shandle: I won’t even lie, I totally teared up when they showed Richard giving the introduction speech and all of them mouthing the words along with him. Crying every episode – is this a thing now?

Kathy: Hasn’t that always been the thing? I feel like tears just go hand in hand with Grey’s.

Shandle: Yeah, but I just feel like for awhile it wasn’t EVERY episode. Now just hearing the theme song makes me well up. Is it possible to have PTSD from TV? Speaking of tears, I’m glad Amelia got her say with Meredith, but it wasn’t as cathartic as I had hoped it would be for them.

Kathy: I’m going to be honest, I was soooo over Amelia. Like, I get it, but really? Mer was dealing with the death of her husband, the father of her children.

Shandle: I just hoped they’d grow closer through talking. There has always been this gap between them.

Kathy: I wanted to be able to add Catherine and Richard here. I was all “Ooooo, they get each other!” Then I remembered I was in Shondaland.

Shandle: Shondaland should come with stock in Kleenex. And wine.

What could’ve been better:

Shandle: I don’t like this new dark and twisty April at all. Especially the distance it’s making between her and Avery.

Kathy: I feel like the end, though, might have been her awakening. Like maybe that was her hope coming back?

Shandle: Maybe, I hope so. I didn’t like that “I’ve seen how this hospital works” line from Catherine. It felt ominous. Who am I kidding? This whole show feels ominous to me now. #TRUSTNOTHING. Catherine and Richard – I get postponing the wedding, but then Richard second guessing their relationship again? Really?

Kathy: I was so annoyed with that whole story line. Happy one second, pissed the next…it just really pissed me off. Can anyone just get a happy ending just fucking once?

Shandle: Alex and Jo fighting, too… CAN NO ONE BE HAPPY?!

Kathy: See? No one! Also, side note: I loved Mer talking to Alex about moving in with him for a while. That really touched my heart.

Shandle: Me, too. He is being a good Person. And what is with Hunt not wanting to be Chief anymore?

Kathy: Well, he is a runner….

Oh shit, Shonda! Moment:

Shandle: April bringing the whole car! BADASS!

Kathy: Mine was the phone call for Maggie’s – more of a whaaaaat was that????

Shandle: I am reserving feelings on that until we know more. I can’t take the stress.

What we’re looking forward to:

Shandle: We get to watch the finale together next week!!!!!!

Kathy: BOOM, slumber party!!

Best Lines:

“Each of you today comes here hopeful, wanting in on the game. a month ago, you were in med school, being taught by doctors. Today, you are the doctors. The five years you spend here as surgical residents will be the best and worst of your lives. You will be pushed to the breaking point. Look around you. Say hello to your competition. Eight of you will switch to an easier specialty. Five of you will crack under the pressure. Two of you will be asked to leave. This is your starting line. This is your arena. How well you play, that’s up to you.” – Richard to the chicks and ducks

“I am supporting you. I’m your maid of honor.” – Jackson to Catherine

“I’m not here to haul you out of here. I’m here to help. I’m looking for a pair of scrubs.”
“This. This is reason number 537 why you and I are made for one another.”
“Surgery is sexy, honey.” – Catherine and Richard

“You’re like the chief who cried wolf.” – Bailey to Richard

“I really love all her little things. It’s like I’m home. She’s like my home.” – Keith

“There are patients here that had chunks of cement fall on them during their morning commute. But, please, have some brie. While carrying lab samples. That’s nasty.” – Bailey to a duck

“Dr. Hunt, this procedure’s only been successful on pigs?” – Jo to Owen

“There’s a difference between knowing when you can realistically save someone and when it’s time to walk away.” – Meredith to Amelia

“I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t exist. You know, I looked around at that house, and my kids, our kids… I couldn’t breathe.” – Meredith to Amelia

Scandal, Season season 4, Episode 21 – “A Few Good Women”

What we loved:

Kathy: Susan, Susan, Susan. I just love her. I love everything about her. I also really loved the women in this episode. They were all fighting for the same justice – the bigger picture. And you know that got my feminism juices going.

Shandle: Another episode in which Shonda gives me a feminist boner… *swoons* She totally went there with the abortion scene, too. No fear of the backlash at all. And that reporter using the words “rape culture.” Was that a prime time TV first? I am wondering. I also really loved that Abby and Olivia had some screen time together this episode. I miss them. I miss Abby being a Gladiator.

Kathy: Jake and Russell, creepy but that whole interaction was really really good.

Shandle: It was so good! The two of them mimicking Rowan and the brotherly love was perfect.

Kathy: Quinn and Huck –  the two of them. They are twisted soul mates.

Shandle: I admit I was excited when I saw they were going to be torturing him. It’s been awhile.

Kathy: Mellie. I am really, really rooting for her. I loved her moment with Fitz about “what would Liv tell you to do?”

Shandle: I loved that, too, and I love that she did it!

What could’ve been better:

Kathy: The true facts and shame of how our judicial and military system work. It wasn’t fiction; it was real. This is the world we live in. I am adding it here because it’s depressing. Shonda, she may break our hearts, but at least she goes there. She goes where other shows are scared to go. That, for me, is a constant.

Shandle: I agree 100%, I love that she isn’t afraid to go there. And then in her world, she shows how it is possible to do things “right.”

Oh shit, Shonda! Moment:

Kathy: B613 AGAIN. Wait, Mellie is Foxtail?? WTF? How would Jake not know that? Or Liv for that matter?

Shandle: RIGHT?! How did the Secret Service not have a poster of Rowan with “PUBLIC ENEMY NUMBER ONE” on it? Fitz knows how dangerous he is! He knows he will stop at nothing to get Liv to submit to him.

What are we looking forward to?

Kathy: DUH. Finale slumber party!!!

Shandle: YES! And did you see Kerry on The Tonight Show? She said at the table read for the finale, when they were done she asked Shonda “How do we go on from here?” *breathes into paper bag*

Best Lines:

Jake and Russell’s entire creepy bromance conversation.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IImSV9dZjBA

“No one is going to kill you, Russell. I know that sounds comforting, but, trust me, it’s not. You don’t get off so easily. You don’t get to die. So, if I were you, I’d start talking about Foxtail, because what these two are going to do to you is much worse than death.” – Olivia to Russell

“You stole a United States servicewoman?!”
“I removed Ensign Martin from an unsafe situation.”
“On whose authority… the Captain of Crazytown’s?” – Cyrus and Susan

“Not because she told you or her commanding officer or anyone else, as far as you know, but because you, the largely powerless figurehead of the United States, are some sort of sexual-assault bloodhound in your spare time?” – Cyrus to Susan

“So, if you find out that Foxtail means, say, “assassinate David Rosen,” I’d really appreciate a heads up.” – David to Liv

“It’s all just enough to pique your interest that he’s been studying you for months, surveilling your every move, listening to your every call, getting a PHD in Olivia Pope because your father told him to. He’s been hand-picked, groomed, trained. He’s exactly like me. Your father made Russell, and he made me. We both came off the same assembly line. The only difference is that I’m in love with you. Command would call that a defect. Russell does not have that defect.” – Jake to Liv

“When I was kidnapped, there was this bathroom. It was filthy. It was the filthiest place I’ve ever been. It had this smell…. but it was the place they weren’t, the only place I was alone. I started to look forward to being in there, look forward to my five minutes in the dirty, smelly bathroom, because it was safe. I felt safe… that bathroom and that place with those men. At least I knew what it was, what to expect. That my father could not get me.” – Olivia

“Do you know that if you’re a member of the military, you can’t sue the U.S. government if you’re raped because it’s considered the same as an injury on the battlefield? An occupational hazard?” – Olivia to Fitz

“Even though those documents are classified, and if they caught me, they’d hang me by my thumbs in the town square.”
“Washington doesn’t have a town square.”
“Trust me, the democrats would build one for me.” – Fitz and Olivia

“The world is right… my job sucks.” – Fitz
