Grey’s Anatomy, Season 12, Episode 1 – “Sledgehammer”

What we loved:

Shandle: We’re back! I loved everything about this episode. It was like a breathe of fresh air after the pain of the last season. I even made it about halfway before I cried. Mer wearing that scrub cap did me in, though.

Kathy: Oh, Shonda. I have missed you so damn much. This opening scene really warmed my heart. The three of them living together, trying to figure shit out. Also, I loved the music this episode – the different renditions, it was perfect. And did you notice the fade outs were sunny? I feel like they are never sunny. I wonder if that is purposeful. New beginning?

Shandle: I loved the music, too! And yes, they were sunny. I think it’s a sign of a brighter show this year.

Kathy: I love that they picked such a relevant story line for the side story. Just classic Shonda. Also, quite a swing Maggie has!

Shandle: Callie and Maggie were amazing this episode, standing up to that bullying mother. Maggie punching her was the best thing ever. The dads both stepped up at the end, too. Alia’s father reading that note and saying “I like her already” = total sobfest.

Shandle: Bailey getting Chief! (Bailey did get Chief, right? I wasn’t sure if that scene was meant to be official or if it was him just hoping for her.) Ben was perfect and knew exactly how to help her, too. I really love them.

Kathy: They are the new It couple for me, especially since April and Jackson are on the outs. My favorite Ben moment: walking to the table, “You do NOT know me.” Rolling on the floor! I was so moved by her speech. It was amazing to see her finally stand up for herself and what she deserved.

Shandle: They are perfect. I agree. New It couple. And Mer, Maggie and Amelia taking turns with the sledgehammer? Beautiful.

What could’ve been better:

Shandle: April and Jackson. FIX IT.

Kathy: I’m so tired. They were perfect, and they ruined it.

What we’re looking forward to:

Shandle: I’m curious about Arizona shacking up with the new hottie intern.

Kathy: The intern is all sad boy. I’m interested to see how this pans out.

Best Lines:

“Bad. Bad idea. Who wants open or sun? Bad sun. Hate sun.” – Maggie

“Why do you think it is that everybody thinks they have a right to a front row seat to my marriage? Show’s closed, not selling tickets.” – Avery

“Pierce punched a homophobe.”
“Oh, unexpected! High five!” – Arizona and Amelia

“What chair are you?”
“FIRST CHAIR!” – Ben and Bailey

“I have earned first chair and every single one of you already knows it.” – Bailey

“Behold, everything the light touches is yours.” – Ben

Scandal, Season 5, Episode 1 – “Heavy Is the Head”

What we loved:

Kathy: Y’all grab your wine and settle in! We have been waiting all summer for this shit!

Shandle: *sings* AT LASTTTTTTTTTTTTT!

Kathy: This bitch. I missed her, and I missed hating her.

Shandle: I love to hate Mellie. The hair was extra big, too. I feel like that’s a sign her powers have grown or something.

Kathy: Vermont. I am getting Vermont in the first few seconds? Dreams do come true! The two of them all domesticated and lovey…just so dang happy. Their talk at the end – she was so right. She knows they can’t make it, not like this. Not yet.

Shandle: She is always the voice of reason. I feel like that conversation with the princess in the bathroom was very much an eye opener to her. It kind of burst her Vermont bubble.

Kathy: Holy shit, dude. Shonda does not play – in a tunnel, a princess, a scandal? WOW.

Shandle: Yeah, as many years as it has been, it almost felt too soon.

What could have been better:

Kathy: Mellie. I grew to love her, but now we are back to this version of her. I don’t know how I feel about it. I also didn’t like seeing Fitz be so cruel. I don’t know how I feel about it. It’s like, I love them separately, but together? Together they are volatile.

Shandle: She is desperate and power hungry. That is never a good combination.

Kathy: I wasn’t crazy about Abby being on the outs and being made to look like a fool.

Shandle: Me, either. She’s a Gladiator, dammit!

What we are looking forward to:

Kathy: Huck. Poor, sad Huck. The SUN, the sun is going to help him!

Shandle: He breaks my heart, poor thing. I was happy to see Jake, too.

Kathy: Well, I guess it’s all coming out now, huh?

Shandle: It was bound to happen sometime. We knew she wouldn’t just give us Vermont on a silver platter.

Best lines:

You have so many qualities I despise, but I do admire your brilliance. So, do the math, Mel. Fighting this, fighting me, will mean both of us deploy every weapon in our arsenals. Every lie, every secret, every juror on that bus. Mutually assured destruction. We’ll be ruined. Now, me, I’m a war hero, governor, two-time President. My bucket list is done. You? Your biggest accomplishment so far is breathing and smiling.” – Fitz

“I was your prisoner, I was your puppet, I was your bitch.” – Liz

“Is he hurting you on the inside?” – Huck

“You were right. Not all fairy tales have happy endings, but evil queens, they tend to go down.” – Olivia

I want you. I want us. But I want to slow down. I want our business handled. I want our problems fixed. I want to be ready before the world is watching, because once it is, once we’re in that spotlight being picked at and scrubbed and stretched in every direction we will never get the chance to make things right. If we are broken going in, we’re not getting out. They will destroy us. That’s reality, Fitz.” – Olivia

How to Get Away With Murder, Season 2, Episode 1 – “It’s Time to Move On.

What we loved:

Kathy: I don’t know if I loved or hated this, but Wes in class was twisted and epic. That puppy got bite.

Shandle: I kind of loved it, I enjoy him with some back bone. And OMG, Bonnie is the killer! I did not see that coming. I thought for sure it was Frank. I love how tense this show is. It constantly keeps me on the edge of my seat.

Kathy: MIND BLOWN. That moment when Annalise figured it out!!! I loved it. LOVED IT. Listening to Bonnie talk about herself was tortured and creepy. In the apartment, I swear I thought she was going to snap.

Shandle: It was very creepy. Bonnie is all sorts of dark and twisty.

Shandle: Holy shit! Annalise was with a woman!

Kathy: I honestly thought that was how it would always be. I liked seeing her like that. It felt far more natural to me than anyone else we have seen her with.

Shandle: Really? I never got that vibe, but after last night it totally makes sense.

Shandle: Eggs911 texted back!!!!

Kathy: Eggs911 has been weighing on my mind all damn summer. I really hope we get a conclusion to that soon. Also, the club scene. YES. I am a dance it out fan. All of them dancing out was awesome.

Shandle: Love the dancing. It’s so Shonda. I want to see where this new relationship of Annelise’s is going.

Kathy: I am really excited for this new case.

What could’ve been better:

Shandle: I did not appreciate waiting until almost the end of the episode to find out Bonnie was the killer. I am impatient.

Kathy: Yeah, I hate yelling at my TV. It’s like they can’t hear me.

Shandle: We really should have a direct line. Shonda, have your people call our people.

What we’re looking forward to:

Kathy: WUT is happening? I am hoping this is just another piece of the plan. She does some twisted shit to win cases. Please say it’s that.

Shandle: WTF? WHO SHOT HER?! Edge. Of. My. Seat.

Best lines:

“Where are you going?”
“To get us a murder case that didn’t happen in this house.” – Frank and Annalise

“Yes, I admit it. My penis is really craving an orgasm.” – Connor

“I won’t be mad that you did it. I’ll just be mad that you’re lying.” – Annalise

“White folks always bring up race when it suits them, never when it matters.” – Nate

“You’d get no warning if I was going to off you, Mr. Walsh.” – Annalise
