The not-for-profit organization Soup Sisters and Broth Brothers was founded in Calgary, Alberta back in 2009. The brainchild of Sharon Hapton, the organization’s vision is simple: to “. . . give people a way to give back to their community by doing something tangible – getting into the kitchen, spending a night with friends, rolling up their sleeves and creating something heartwarming. . .”

As part of Hapton’s larger vision, National Soup it Forward Day has been celebrated across Canada and the United States every March since 2018. Soup Sisters and Broth Brothers encourage people “to spread love and generosity with a bowl of soup,” and that’s an idea we can get behind! To learn more about National Soup it Forward Day, you can follow Soup Sisters on Instagram, like them on Facebook, or visit their official website.

As for us? We challenge you to pick a recipe from the roundup below, hit up your local supermarket for ingredients, and head home to whip up a batch of soup to surprise a friend who could use a little extra care. What could make someone feel more comforted, or loved, than that?

1. Wild Rice Mushroom Soup from Carlsbad Cravings

From the website: This Wild Rice Mushroom Soup is boldly complex, sensationally flavored, rich and creamy, rustic comfort in a bowl.  It’s loaded with caramelized umami mushrooms and chewy, nutty wild rice in a luxurious velvety broth infused with the herbaceous lightness of dill, thyme and oregano. Best of all, this Mushroom Soup all cooks in one pot – even the rice – without any “cream of” soups!
