Acne just plain sucks. For as long as I can remember I have had to battle acne and sensitive skin year around. But during the summer month’s I am always left wondering if my skin was going to be clear enough to wear that tank top or that bathing suit, or even be able to go make-up free to the beach! I’ve tried so many products and combinations over the years that I wondered if I was ever going to find a combo that worked for me; with scrubs, toners, spot treatments, and masks I wasn’t sure it was ever going to happen. But this last year I have found a handful of products that seems to be able to balance my normally finnicky skin. Its not perfect but nothing ever is right? So while the temperatures rise I wanted to share with you guys some of my favorite (and easily accessible) affordable skincare products that have helped me love my skin a little more. I’m not a dermatologist, just someone like you guys who’s battling acne as an adult.

  1. Gentle Scrubs: St. Ives Black Head Clearing Green Tea Scrub and Acne Control Apricot Scrub

These are my two favorite facial scrubs. Though they are both considered “Moderate” scrubs I use them for different situations. The Green Tea scrub has a much finer exfoliator that I feel comfortable using every evening to get off the excess dirt and sweat from the warmer weather. It gently cleans without irritating while treating general acne with 1% salicylic acid.

Whereas the Apricot Scrub I use once or twice a week to really get into the pores, generally the t-zone, where things have built up from a using sunblock and make-up. Thid formula has 2% salicylic acid so it helps to keep the tougher breakouts under control. I have some larger pores around my nose and on my chin so this does a really good job of clearing those out.

Both are made with 100% natural exfoliants, are hypoallergenic, paraben-free, non-comedogenic, and dermatologist tested.

You can find these at pretty much any drug store, Target, or grocery store.

  1. Daily Cleanser: OXY Maximum Action Face Wash

This face wash has been a big game-changer to my summer skincare routine. I always had a difficult time finding a cleanser that I could use every morning that would be able to stand up to the excess oil during summer but this one does the job. With 10% Benzoyl Peroxide it tackles the job no problem. And since it is a cream cleanser it doesn’t over-dry and irritate my skin. I even use it on my chest and back when things get irritated to help dry up any spot quickly.

You can find these at pretty much any drug store, Target, or grocery store.

  1. Daily Toner: Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2

OK, so the name of this is very deceiving because this is not so much a “lotion” as it is a toner. It is described as a “Dermatologist-developed liquid exfoliating lotion clears the way for smoother, brighter skin.” It helps prep your skin for whatever moisturizer you apply after by clearing away the dead skin. Gentle enough for both oily and dry skin types. I personally love the way it minimizes pores and even softens fine-lines while helping my skin feel cool and fresh.

You can find this product at any beauty and cosmetic store, as well as the Clinique counter at your local Macys.

  1. Daily Treatment: Curology Personalized Skincare

So this is something that I have really loved using both for its affordability as well as its convenience. It is a personalized skincare service that is tailored to your skin. You are paired with a licensed Dermatologist that you communicate with via messaging/email to find the right medical combination for your skin. The process is easy and it only costs $20 per month to have it delivered to your door. And if you need an adjustment because of the change in seasons or your skin seems to be having a different reaction it’s so easy to communicate that with your doctor and change things up.

  1. Daily Moisturizer: Murad Skin Perfecting Lotion

This lotion has been a lifesaver. I am one of those people who is never able to find a moisturizer that doesn’t make my skin oily within hours of applying it. Which then leads to breakouts. So when I tried out this lotion I was skeptical since I’ve tried so many name-brand products in the past. As soon as I applied I knew it was going to be different. It doesn’t feel greasy while applying and still manages to moisturize and brighten my skin. I also love that it has a slightly citrus-y scent that make’s it smell refreshing.
