This month is Rose Month, and what better way to celebrate than incorporating elegant roses into your beauty routine? Roses have soothing, hydrating, brightening, toning, and slight antiseptic properties that make them an all-over powerhouse ingredient. Anyone and everyone benefits from some roses! Want to know what to look for? Below are some of my favorite picks for incorporating rose into your beauty routine.

Sephora’s Rose Cleansing Milk

Because Water Is Boring: Micellar waters are excellent for a refreshing cleanse in the morning or gentle makeup removal at night, but sometimes something a little richer is needed. Cleansing milks have a bit more hydration for drier and sensitive skin, but are still thinner like a micellar water. Try Sephora’s Rose Cleansing Milk for a refreshing sweep of cleansing hydration. This is especially good in the summer, as this no-rinse formula means no warm water is needed!

Stick It To The Dirt: Su:m37’s Cleansing Stick is an oil cleanser in solid stick form, making it super easy to take along when traveling. It’s got 90% natural ingredients, as evidenced by the pieces of dried rose petals you’ll find throughout the tube. It foams up nicely but is still nondrying, and will dissolve pretty much any makeup, sunscreen, and debris that could possibly be on the skin.

Fresh Rose Foaming Cleanser

Foamingly Pretty: Now that you’ve gotten the debris off with a first cleanse, a second cleanse will ensure the skin itself is clean. Don’t worry, though: Fresh Rose Foaming Cleanser is here for some gentle, soothing work. Rose, cucumber, and evening primrose come together for this non-irritating cleanser to work its magic.

Bewitch Acne Away: After cleansing, you absolutely must tone the skin. Toners (sometimes called astringents or lotions) are made to help balance the skin’s pH after cleansing as well as add some treatment properties to the skin. Thayers Alcohol-Free Witch Hazel Hydrosols are some of my favorite toners for even the most sensitive skin, especially if oiliness or breakouts are a concern. I personally love the Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner which also has aloe vera juice for some extra soothing action.

The Spa Dr’s Pearl and Rose Petal Facial Exfoliant

Buff Away The Years: Exfoliation is one of the keys to keeping skin healthy, but over exfoliation is actually very common. Those of us who do exfoliate tend to overdo it, partially because we overuse over-aggressive products. Meet your perfect exfoliant with The Spa Dr’s Pearl and Rose Petal Facial Exfoliant, a gently buffing formula that helps retain collagen and elastin, brighten the skin, and stimulate cell turnover. Used once a week, it’s gentle enough to keep the skin calm while still being effective.

Put On A Happy Face Mask: Okay, so let’s say you get some breakouts, but you’re also pretty sensitive. Oh, and you have dry patches. And you’d really rather not try to multi-mask because that means trying to get three masks that will each take care of different problems without causing other problems. PROBLEMS, GUYS. Well, problems are no longer problematic with Lush’s Rosy Cheeks mask with kaolin, calamine, and rose oil. It tackles oil, acne, dryness, and sensitivity all in one go. 15 minutes later, a simple rinse will leave you matte, toned, and refreshed.

Vegan Caviar: Named after the teensy, salty fish eggs, Pixi Beauty’s Rose Caviar Essence is a delight to look at. The teensy balls inside aren’t caviar at all, but are encapsulated oils that burst upon contact with the skin, ensuring ingredients stay at their optimal freshness. Use this before your moisturizer for a refreshing, hydrating treatment.

Chantecaille’s Rose de Mai Eye Lift

Rose-Colored Glasses

Rose Colored Glasses: Maybe you don’t want rose-colored glasses, but I can almost guarantee you want Chantecaille’s Rose de Mai Eye Lift to help fight every Eye problem imaginable. Filled with rose, algae, and Persian Silk Tree extract, this whammy of an eye cream tackles puffiness, dark circles, wrinkles, fine lines, and loss of elasticity. The cooling ceramic applicator tip allows you to massage the product in.

Lips as Soft as Roses: Soothing Touch’s vegan & gluten free Vanilla Rose Lip Balm is filled with nourishing oils to hydrate the delicate lip area. Perfect for daily use as both a makeup prep and regular balm. You should probably buy several since your friends will get jealous, and you’ll need one in your bathroom, one in your bag, one in your gym bag, one at your desk…

Weleda’s Renewing Day Cream

Face the Day: Daytime hydration is key to happy skin, but it needs to be light enough to not ball up under makeup. Weleda’s Renewing Day Cream is filled with rosehip seed oil and natural rose fragrance as certified by NATRUE, Europe’s leading natural and organic certifier. It also has myrrh and peach kernel oil to hydrate the deeper layers of skin for maximum effectiveness.

Sweet Dreams: What if you get a facial every night while you sleep? Korres’ Wild Rose Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial does exactly that, elevating itself from a night cream to a nightly treatment. It promises hydration, better skin tone, healing, softer skin, and diminished dark spots. Talk about waking up with a new face!

Mario Badescu Facial Mist

Mist Your Worries Away: Facial mists are a refreshing way to rehydrate throughout the day, and few are more popular right now than Mario Badescu’s Facial Mist with Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater. A makeup artist favorite for prepping the skin, it gives dewy hydration and refreshes without being overwhelmingly rosy or sticky. Aloe, Gardenia, Rose, Bladderwrack, and Thyme help treat any skin woe so that your best face can shine forward.

Wash That Rose Right Into Your Hair: L’Occitane is known for it’s amazing aromas and natural bases. Their Roses et Reines Pearlescent Shampoo is no exception to this, delivering a great clean with an amazing aroma. I might just have to add this to my shampoo rotation.

Moroccanoil Fleur de Rose Conditioner

Soft as a Rose Petal: If you’re in search of an everyday, lightweight conditioner that detangles and softens while smelling like heaven, Moroccanoil Fleur de Rose Conditioner is for you . Argan oil, Shea butter, sunflower seed oil, and beet root extract Coke together for hair to be soft, shiny, and nourished.

Wafting Smells: If you aren’t a big perfume girl but want to smell good, or you’re on day 3 hair and don’t want to smell like dry shampoo, then Herbivore Botanicals x Urban Outfitter’s Rose Hair Perfume Mist is a perfect solution. The rose hair mist is scented with rose and geranium for a clean, fresh rose aroma. It also comes in Apricot and Jasmine for when you want to mix it up a bit.

Soak Your Cares Away: Fig + Moss have concocted a delicious blend of pink Himalayan sea salt, grapefruit, and rose petals for a soothing bath soak that’ll ease your stress away. All natural and handcrafted, you can relax with confidence that this blend of good for you.

The Body Shop’s British Rose Shower Gel

Rosy Bubbles: Getting clean shouldn’t be boring. The Body Shop’s British Rose Shower Gel is here with it’s rose and sugar filled formula for a hydrating, lather rich, soap free showering experience that’ll leave you wanting to shower pretty much all the time.

I Do Want This Scrub: While scrubs are the kind of man that get no love from me, this body scrub is definitely going to have all your love. I recommend scrubbing once a week all over your body, as well as scrubbing before each time you shave and between waxing visits. The argan oil and Shea butter in this formula keep your skin super soft, and the rose aroma is delicate but perfect.

Aromatherapy Associates Body Oil

Oil Yourself Up: I’m a big fan of body oils. Depending on my mood, I’ll either use them when I’m fresh out of the tub or while I’m still in the shower. It gives an extra boost of hydration that really can’t be beat. This body oil from Aromatherapy Associates has long been on my wish list with it’s delicious combination of rose, neroli, and geranium oils. It’s also safe for use while pregnant and breastfeeding (although I caution using this on the breast area while breastfeeding, simply because that might not digest too well), so get your partner to massage it on you when you feel bloated or yucky or exhausted.

Smooth the day over: Follow up that body oil with a good body lotion, like this one from Jurlique. Their Rose Body Care Lotion is lightweight, lightly scented, and filled with good-for-you ingredients to keep skin healthy and happy. Be sure you shake it before use to ensure the ingredients are evenly distributed!

Diptyque’s Eau de Rose

Slay with Smells: For years I’ve kept a running perfume list of fragrances I’d love to try (read: layer with my steadfast love, Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue). Diptyque’s Eau de Rose is probably at the top of that list with notes of bergamot, lychee, rose, cedar, and musks. A friend of mine said it smells like angel tears. Best of all, each fragrance purchase now comes with a sample of that fragrance for you to try first. If it ends up not working for you, return the unopened bottle within 14 days and they’ll accept it with no issues.

Safely Skunk-Free: As beauty editor of S&C, and having worked with several cancer patients as an esthetician, I have a pretty serious issue with deodorants that contain aluminum. Too many studies have shown links of aluminum-containing deodorants with breast cancer, and many breast cancer survivors and patients are urged to ditch their aluminum-containing deodorants by their oncologists. That tells me that we should probably avoid deodorants with aluminum in the first place. Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant in Rose + Vanilla makes that super easy to do. It’s also vegan and gluten free, making it an easy switch for anyone. This stuff consistently has 5 star reviews and comes in a variety of strengths and scents, with several options for even the most sensitive underarms.

Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap

Clean Your Palace: Now your body smells like roses, but your house still smells…well, blah. You might not be able to afford a maid to come clean, but your house can still smell opulent with a simple solution of rose castile soap in water. Don’t worry if you’re unsure on how to use it! The website is filled with helpful hints and uses for the stuff – including toothpaste, mopping solution, laundry, and produce rinses.

Delicate Cycle: For delicate blouses and lacy undies (really anything that needs to be treated with a little extra TLC), splurge for The Laundress’ rose filled detergent. This blend has 31 ingredients that come together to make a fresh rose scent that is evidently neither too feminine nor too masculine, so feel free to use it on the whole family’s delicates!

Elevate Your Palate: Rosewater has been used for centuries in European and Asian dishes, but as time has gone on it’s mostly disappeared, really only staying relevant in Middle Eastern, Greek, Indian, and Pakistani foods. Bring roses back to the table by adding it to pastries, fruits, mild cheeses, and refreshing drinks. If you want to be a bit more daring, add a splash in some marinade for chicken or other light meat. Generally speaking, if pistachios work well in the dish, a splash of rosewater will take it to a whole new level. This one from Nielsen-Massey is a good bet.

Macarons

Snack Time: Macarons are always a good idea, and rose flavored macarons are some of my favorites. Build a custom macaron box from one of the world’s top macaron bakers, Bottega Louie, for a truly wonderful experience! To pair with the rose, I like mixing in some vanilla, raspberry, and lemon.
