Whether your mother loves fiction or non-fiction, historical tomes, or mysteries, we can all agree that Mom deserves a good read…something she can truly enjoy diving into on her special day.  Some ideas below to keep you in her good graces:

Glitter and Glue by Kelly Corrigan

Kelly Corrigan’s “Glitter and Glue” is a beautiful memoir. It’s funny, heart-warming and poignant…the perfect gift from a daughter to her mother. It’s the story of a free-spirited young woman who takes a nanny position that changes her life. The title of the book is a reference to a theme that carries over throughout this gem of a read and is credited to the author’s mother, “In this family, your father is the glitter and I’m the glue.”

Victoria by Daisy Goodwin

If historical fiction is more your mother’s cup of tea, why not give her “Victoria,” by Daisy Goodwin?  This is a fascinating telling of Queen Victoria’s early life and her accession to the throne at the age of 18, as well as her marriage to Prince Albert. Victoria is often portrayed as a staid, matronly, heavily-powdered monarch, but she was so much more! She was a bright, opinionated young woman not easily swayed by those around her. Brilliant!

We Could Be Beautiful by Swan Huntley

If you are looking for a novel that will draw your mother in, simply because the cover is so appealing, then look no further than Swan Huntley’s “We Could Be Beautiful.” This is a fun, voyeuristic piece of literary fiction. Catherine is a wealthy 40-something socialite who appears to have it all, but longs for more. When she gets what she wants, she starts to doubt her choices and the reality of her situation. As her world comes apart at the seams, and long-buried secrets come to light, she learns just how strong and capable she truly is.

The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George

And if Mom is not a fan of carrying around a big, hardcover book, pick her up a paperback copy of “The Little Paris Bookshop,” by Nina George.  Perfect for Francophiles and anyone who loves spending time haunting bookstores. The owner of a floating bookstore prides himself on his ability to find just the right book for each patron. This is a story of the wisdom and transformative power books have over their readers.
