National Peanut Butter Lovers Month Has Gone To The Dogs!

November is National Peanut Butter Lovers Month, a holiday worth celebrating with your peanut-butter-loving canine companions!  Whether you make your own peanut butter, or use the store bought kind, your dogs will love these recipes, guaranteed. Just be sure to check the label with regard to purchased peanut butters; you want to make sure any peanut butter given to your pets does not contain Xylitol, a sugar substitute that is safe for humans, but deadly for our four-legged friends. We’ve even included a couple of gluten free recipes just in case your dog (or you!) is sensitive to gluten and avoid eating or handling products that contain gluten.

Here is an easy recipe for making your own peanut butter.  The best part is that this recipe doesn’t make too much, so it stays fresh. And we all know freshness is the key to great peanut butter!

My dogs love this recipe as it uses two of their favorite ingredients…pumpkin and peanut butter.  I love that it includes cinnamon which we know can lower blood sugar and reduce the chances of heart disease.

Peanut Butter & Pumpkin Dog Treats

Coconut oil has many health benefits for dogs. One of the most obvious benefits of adding coconut oil to their diets is that it can help resolve many skin issues. These treats are super-easy to make and it’s really fun to shop for different shaped molds for making them, hearts for February, stars for December, etc. These treats do need to be refrigerated to stay fresh.

Everyone celebrates their dog’s birthday, right?  But finding the perfect, healthy cake for the occasion can be a challenge.  This cake is perfect for any dog-related party, and if you can’t find the pawprint molds, you can easily just prepare this recipe as you would regular cupcakes, for your dog to share with his friends.

Paw Print Peanut Butter Cupcakes

For older dogs for whom hard cookies are difficult to chew, why not consider this canine version of soft serve ice cream?

These gluten-free, gingerbread-man-shaped, peanut butter dog cookies will make the perfect gift for your dog friends this holiday season!

Peanut Butter Dog Cookies

One more grain-free recipe and this one I’ve made using my dog bone cookie cutter, just for fun. Because the recipe only makes 24 cookies, I usually double it during the holidays so I am sure to have enough on hand to give away. And as you can see in the photo, there is always a little dough left, so I just make little round cookies with the leftovers. My dogs sure don’t seem to mind!
