So this last month I’ve gotten a bit off track with travel and illness, lost my fitbit, didn’t charge my fitbit…so never mind how many steps I got in March. But I still watched tons of great shows and manage to lose another 2 pounds! Here are my picks for active couch potatoes in April.

Absentia

An FBI agent goes missing for seven years after a serial killer suspected of her murder goes away for life. She resurfaces just as her fellow agent husband settles into life with a new wife. Now she must figure out who is helping the serial killer with his plans. If you like police mysteries, it will keep you on the edge.

Comrade Detective

Imagine if Channing Tatum joined Mystery Science Theater and dubbed all your favorite 80’s Communist propaganda detective series. It would be awesome, right? Well that’s what Comrade Detective is. Except they never got access to Iron Curtain-era propaganda serials, so they made their own, right down to the detectives all driving Yugos and dealing with drugs dealt in American dollars (because America is the distributor of everything evil).

It’s not the best comedy you’ll see. But it will make you respect Channing Tatum even more for trying something so stupid, and making it work without it being completely idiotic. They pieced together a series that would have passed as a great police series in the 80’s! I’d love to see what he’d do with a remake of The Office.

Fleabag

A woman rapidly approaching middle age continues her fun-loving but self-destructive behaviors. At times dark; this BBC comedy makes me wonder how anyone in the UK could bash the series Versailles as being too sexual. If you’re in a bad place in your life, don’t start this series. But if you’d like to watch a little self-deprecating, self-loathing humor to feel better about your own life, go for it! Those in stable relationships will get great laughs, and walk away grateful to not be dating.

The Dressmaker

Kate Winslet plays Tilly, a prodigy designer, who returns to her childhood home in rural Australia. Set in the 1950’s, Tilly brings haute couture and her own brand of justice back to the town folk. Liam Hemsworth stars as the only one who makes her journey into the past tolerable.

This film had limited release in 2016. Thank goodness it’s available on my Amazon Prime. It’s great. The outback hasn’t looked this good since Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

Goliath

My favorite series pick for the month is Goliath. Billy Bob Thornton plays a soulless lawyer, seeking redemption and a comeback, when a unassuming case falls into his lap. William Hurt plays his even more evil old partner. Every character offers a command performance, as the story line builds. It’s one of those shows where you can simply enjoy watching actors ACT. And bonus, it has an awesome soundtrack. It’s worth watching for the theme song alone! I can’t wait for Season Two later this year.

That’s it for April. Enjoy!
