Every day, with my husband. He is solidly in the midst of Parkinson's dementia, his "gift", for having had this loathesome disease for over 20 years. First, i lost him to the disease, then i lost him to the side effects and personality changes that come with so many of the medications given for Parkinson's. Now, i've lost him once more, to the ravages of dememtia. Caregiving only makes the distance more impressive. i haven't been his "wife", for a long time--i'm only someone who "checks up on him"--or one of his sisters. it's left me cold, hollow, empty...but after 50 years of marriage, there's nowhere to run. and it hits me most when one of my own daughters says, "i really just want my mom back.", and i can't remedy the situation, because there is no fix. we are all changed by the disease.

And this is why you are so beloved. You share a universal truth that resonates. Thank you for the reminder that it’s okay for me to rest and sit when I need to. I have always been strong and healthy. Fibromyalgia is kicking my bum. I do what I can and feel like a fraud for not doing more.
