National Hot Chocolate Day is celebrated each year on January 31. Considering many of us in the Northern hemisphere are in the doldrums of winter, it seems an appropriate time to find something good about the cold and the snow and the darkness, and that something good can be hot chocolate! Whether you’re a purist, or like to mix things up (funfetti, snickerdoodle, or honey lavender hot chocolate anyone?) there’s a recipe here for you. Which will you try first?

Funfetti Hot Chocolate from Homemade Ginger

From the website: “I made this funfetti hot chocolate on a snowy day when my girls had a half day of school. They were in the other room while I was setting it up and when they came in and saw a delicious mug of sprinkled goodness with marshmallows on top I think their heads almost exploded with excitement. And of course they LOVED it.  They said “this tastes exactly like birthday cake!” And they drank every last drop. This stuff is super rich, so just be warned when giving it to the kids! I would serve it in small mugs for sure.”

It is perfect for the kids to enjoy and if you are a hot chocolate lover you are going to love how easy it is to make whipped hot chocolate and how delicious it tastes!”

Toasted Coconut Hot Chocolate from Old Salt Farm

From the website: “The hot chocolate is coconut-flavored, but it’s a subtle flavor that’s smooth, rich, and creamy. It tastes very fancy, even though it’s super easy! There are actually only THREE ingredients in the hot chocolate itself, and then I like to add a little toasted coconut and chocolate shavings on top to really fancy it up!”
